The best building at Hotel Xcaret Mexico wasn’t something I researched before our trip, but I did spend a lot of time trying to figure out which section of this huge resort would work best for our family. With two teens, I was especially interested in Phase 1 vs. Phase 2, but the opinions I found were all over the place.

We ended up in Casa Viento, Building 2, in the original section, and it turned out to be one of those things I didn’t know enough to request but would absolutely request now.

After five nights and a lot of exploring, we actually preferred the feel of the original section. Even better, I realized our building wasn’t just a great location for families with older kids like ours. There are some pretty big advantages to staying here with younger kids, too.

If you’re trying to figure out where to stay at Hotel Xcaret México, here’s what made Viento Building 2 work so well for us, and who I think would appreciate this location most.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico Is Huge — Location Matters

One thing that is hard to fully understand before you arrive at Hotel Xcaret México is just how massive the resort is. There really isn’t one building that puts you next to everything.

The beach and huge main pool are in the original section of the resort, along with most of the rivers. There are also large pools throughout the property, while some of the family amenities, including waterslides, kids clubs, and the arcade, are in the newer area farther from the beach. The main bus station and one of the largest buffets are closer to the middle.

That means choosing the best building at Hotel Xcaret Mexico really comes down to what your family wants to be closest to. You can explore the entire resort no matter where you stay, but your building definitely affects what is easiest to pop over to throughout the day.

For us, Viento Building 2 ended up being perfect.

Why We Loved Viento Building 2

Viento Building 2 worked so well for us because we felt close to the action without being in a busy area. Right outside our building was one of my favorite spots at the entire resort: a beautiful river area with places to swim, kayaks, a waterslide, and plenty of lounge chairs.

There was also a pool and bar right by our building. What surprised me most was how quiet this whole area felt. We visited in August, and there were almost always open lounge chairs. It felt like we had this gorgeous little section of Hotel Xcaret México practically to ourselves at times.

This was basically our backyard for five nights. Not bad, right?

For our family, this was a huge perk. Our teens could swim, use the waterslide, or kayak while we relaxed nearby with a drink.

It also gave us something I didn’t appreciate until we were actually there: options right outside our room. At a resort this large, being able to walk downstairs and immediately have several things to do made our location feel even better as the week went on.

We took a ridiculous number of pictures during this trip, but many of my favorites came from Xcaret’s photo package. I shared whether the Xcaret photo package was worth it for us, including how many photos we ended up with.

With a river, pool and waterslide right outside our building, we spent a LOT of time in the water at Hotel Xcaret Mexico. These are a few things we were especially glad to have with us.

  • My Water Shoes: Water shoes were required for many of the activities, so this is one item I would not leave at home. Mine stayed comfortable throughout the trip and held up well. I bought my husband a cheaper pair, but his were not nearly as comfortable and started falling apart.
  • Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen: Xcaret asks guests to use sunscreen that is safe for its rivers, cenotes and other natural environments. We brought Blue Lizard mineral sunscreen so we could protect our skin while following the requirements for the activities.
  • Waterproof Phone Pouch – So many Xcaret experiences involve water that a waterproof phone pouch is one of the easiest ways to keep your phone protected and still have it available for photos.
  • Dry Backpack – This helped keep dry clothes and other belongings protected when most of what we were doing involved rivers, pools or cenotes.
  • Wet Bag – I started bringing a few wet bags on this trip and really liked having them. They made it easy to separate wet swimsuits and water gear from everything else in our bag.
  • Portable Charger: We used our phones constantly for photos, videos and the resort app. I have owned several portable chargers, and this one is hands down my favorite.

We learned pretty quickly that packing for Xcaret is different from packing for a typical beach vacation, so I put together an Xcaret packing list with what we actually used during our stay.

Viento Building 2 Was Close to the Places We Used Most

The more we explored Hotel Xcaret México, the luckier I felt about where they had put us. We walked a lot on this trip, and Building 2 was close to so many of the places we actually used.

We wanted beach time, and neither the beach nor the huge main pool was far. We were also fairly close to the bus station for park days and two of the larger buffet areas. Even the big waterslides in the newer section weren’t a bad walk.

After a few days, I really started to appreciate that. We could head to the beach, grab food, catch a bus, or walk over to the bigger waterslides without feeling like everything required a cross-resort expedition.

With so much to do both at the resort and at the parks, figuring out how many days to stay at Hotel Xcaret was actually one of the biggest things I would change about our trip.

Our son in the pool with Viento Building 2 literally right behind him.

This is also why I don’t think there is one “best” building for every family at Hotel Xcaret Mexico. If your kids are going to spend most of their time at the kids clubs and arcade in the newer section, you may want to be closer to those.

For us, though, Building 2 was kind of the sweet spot. We had the river, pool, bar, and our own waterslide right outside, but we were still close enough to the beach, main pool, food, buses, and bigger waterslides that I never found myself wishing our room was somewhere else.

I’d Consider Viento Building 2 With Younger Kids, Too

Even though we were traveling with two teens, I kept thinking about how great this area would have been when our kids were younger.

Casa Viento has its own children’s pool and waterslide area, and it is literally surrounded by the rooms. We obviously weren’t using the little-kid amenities on this trip, but I noticed them immediately.

We came with teens, but the mom in me immediately noticed how convenient this would be with little kids.

When my kids were little, having this right outside our building would have been huge. You could spend time at the children’s pool and be back at your room quickly when someone needed a change of clothes, forgot something, or just needed a break. Parents of little kids know how much easier that can make a resort day.

That’s why I wouldn’t think of Viento Building 2 as a building that’s especially good for teens just because it worked so well for ours. This location has a lot going for it with younger kids, too.

If you’re still trying to decide whether the resort itself will work for your family, I also broke down who Hotel Xcaret México is best for based on our experience traveling with teens.

Our Viento Building 2 Room

We stayed in a two-queen garden-view room, which was one of the less expensive room choices at Hotel Xcaret México. You can definitely go much fancier here, including rooms with swim-up access, but we knew we weren’t going to spend much time in our room. With Xcaret’s All-Fun Inclusive concept giving us so much to do both at the resort and at the parks, paying more for a room upgrade just wasn’t important to us.

The room was plenty big enough for the four of us, with two queen beds and a balcony overlooking all of the tropical greenery. Of course, the hammocks were a hit. Even with the basic garden-view category, it still felt very Xcaret and definitely didn’t feel like we had settled for a boring room.

We skipped the room upgrade and had zero regrets. We had places to explore!

The bathroom setup was a little different. The shower and toilet were in separate areas, while the sink was open to the rest of the room. The funniest part was the glass around the toilet area. You could flip a switch to make it shaded for privacy or clear so you could see right through it.

My kids thought this was hysterical and, of course, immediately had to test it. 😂 We never did figure out why anyone would actually want clear glass looking into the toilet area, but it definitely gave us something to giggle about.

Every hotel room should come with hammocks!

For us, the regular garden-view room was absolutely enough. If I were booking again, I’d choose this room category and save the extra money without thinking twice.

FAQ: Staying in Viento Building 2 at Hotel Xcaret Mexico

Can you request Viento Building 2 at Hotel Xcaret Mexico?

You can make a building request before your stay, although requests aren’t guaranteed. We didn’t request Building 2 and ended up there by chance, but knowing what I know now, it’s the building I would request.

Is Viento Building 2 close to the beach?

Yes. One of the things we loved about Building 2 was being in the original section and relatively close to the beach and huge main pool. We spent quite a bit of time in the water, so this was important to us.

Is Viento Building 2 good for families with kids?

I think so, and not just for families with teens like ours. The kids pool area is right by Casa Viento, while the river, pools, and waterslides give older kids plenty to do nearby too. It’s one of the reasons I think this location works for a pretty wide range of ages.

Do you need a swim-up room at Hotel Xcaret Mexico?

We didn’t. We chose a less expensive two-queen garden-view room because we knew we’d spend very little time in it. With so many pools, rivers, activities, and parks included at Hotel Xcaret México, we never regretted saving the money on the room category.

Is Viento Building 2 the Best Building at Hotel Xcaret Mexico?

There probably isn’t one best building at Hotel Xcaret Mexico for every family, but Viento Building 2 was absolutely the right one for us.

The funny part is that we didn’t even request it. We arrived not really knowing where we wanted to be and left knowing that I’d request the exact same building on another trip.

I loved having so much right outside our building while still being close to the parts of the resort we used most. Our room wasn’t one of the fancy swim-up options, but we didn’t need it to be. We were much too busy enjoying everything else Hotel Xcaret México has to offer.

After five nights of walking all over this enormous resort, I never once saw another building and thought, I wish we were staying there instead.

For me, that’s probably the best endorsement of Viento Building 2 I can give.

Five nights also went much faster than I expected, which is why I have some pretty strong opinions now about how many nights you really need at Hotel Xcaret México.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico is different from a typical all-inclusive resort, so compare your dates carefully and leave yourself enough time to enjoy both the resort and its included experiences.
